Seamless Pipe Fittings
For the production of regular-size pipe fittings, seamless steel pipe is a perfect raw material. Each pipe fitting is manufactured with its best appropriate process—cold forming, hot forming or hot extrusion, which is be decided with considerations of its material, size, shape, use, standard and special properties.
In cold forming process, special forming machines are used. A pipe is pushed through a die and formed into the desire shape. Cold forming method can create pipe fittings with aesthetic appearance, uniform thickness and small size deviation, ideal for the production of thin-wall pipe fittings.
Pipe tees of any material can be manufactured by cold forming. However, for pipe elbows, cold forming is usually applied to Austenitic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel or high alloy elbows.
Hot extrusion process is appropriate for the production of pipe fittings with large diameter, heavy wall thickness or special material with challenging workability. In hot extrusion method, a bigger-diameter seamless pipe is used than the finished product size and the pipe fitting is extruded from the pipe with help of extrusion tool.
In 2007, using hot extrusion method, NFF manufactured 139.7mm-thick alloy steel elbow from 160mm-thick seamless pipe.
